Smoothies, a forever love affair. <3 Smoothies are a quick + easy way to get in some of your favorites, and your superfoods in an efficient, nutritious + delicious way! Smoothies are my personal go-to for a busy AM, or for a post gym refuel.
I always make sure to add in some of my superfood favorites to make the smoothies not only delicious, but extra nourishing for my body + immune system.
The star ingredients of this smoothie is - the maca root powder, cinnamon, cacao nibs and the medjool dates. These four ingredients are almost always my personal favorite smoothie ingredients!
Maca root powder is a Peruvian superfood grown in the Andes Mountains. Maca is a cruciferous vegetable, which means it is closely related to broccoli, cabbage and kale. Maca root helps to increase libido, boosts energy + endurance, shown to increase fertility and naturally uplift your mood.
Cinnamon has been used for it's medicinal properties for thousands of years, dating as far back as Ancient Egypt. Cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants and can be classified in the same superfood category as oregano, garlic and ginger. Cinnamon boosts the metabolism leading to weight loss, helps to regulate blood sugar levels, protects against neurodegenerative disorders. Cinnamon also brings a sense of luck + abundance energetically. Lastly, cinnamon contains anti-cancer properties and has shown to cause cancer cell death in recent studies.
Cacao nibs contain healthy fats and can increase the levels of the hormones serotonin and dopamine in your brain, which elevates your mood. The cacao bean, may increase “good” HDL cholesterol, which can help lower your risk of heart attack and stroke.
Medjool dates regulates blood pressure, containing high amounts of potassium which helps to relieve the cardiovascular system. They are an excellent source of fiber, helping to clean out bacteria and build up in the intestines. Medjool dates are also a natural source of B vitamins, magnesium, copper and iron.
PEANUT BUTTER-CACAO OAT SMOOTHIE
-1 frozen banana
-3 tbsp. gluten free oats
-1 tbsp. cacao nibs
-2 medjool dates
-1 tbsp. peanut butter
-handful of cashews
-maca root powder
-water (or cashew milk)
1. add all ingredients to high speed blender
2. blend, give thanks + enjoy!
