Benefits of Cauliflower
Cauliflower helps prevent cancer. By now we know of the massive studies linking lifestyle factors and nutritional choices to cancer. The food we consume can either help to fight or prevent disease. Cauliflower contains sulforaphane, a sulfur compound that has also been shown to kill cancer stem cells. For instance, research has shown that combining cauliflower with curcumin (the active compound in the spice turmeric) may help prevent and treat prostate cancer.
Cauliflower helps to fight and eliminate inflammation in the body. Researchers believe that inflammation is the root of all disease in the body. The rich antioxidant content as well as the anti-inflammatory compounds found in cauliflower help to target and eliminate inflammation. Just one-cup serving of cauliflower contains at least 73% or more of the recommended daily value of vitamin C, helping to reduce inflammation, boost immunity and keep the body free of harmful bacteria, infections, and common colds.
Cauliflower decreases risk of heart related conditions. Heart disease is the number one killer in America. With cauliflower's powerful anti-inflammatory compounds, researchers note that cauliflower can help decrease the risk of stroke, diabetes, and other neurodegenerative disorders like alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Cauliflower improves digestion and detoxifies the body. According to Dr. Axe, there are key compounds found in cauliflower that are very useful for helping the body to detox due to how they strengthen liver function. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, brusslesprouts, collard greens, bok choy) are beneficial for digestion and detoxification because of their rich supply of sulfur containing compounds called glucosinolates, which support proper nutrient absorption and waste removal.
