The Truth Behind the Bee Decline

The Truth Behind the Bee Decline

For the past three years, my family and I have been harvesting honey from our very own honey bees right in my backyard! Without this little guy we would no longer have strawberries, blueberries, watermelons, bananas, almonds, raspberries, apples, cherries, oranges and peaches..just to name a few. I don't about you but I couldn't imagine a world without these tasty treats! You might be privy to the mysterious and sudden disappearance of bees and that beekeepers around the world are reporting unusually high declines in bee colonies.

What could possibly be causing this massive drop in one of the most important insects to our survival?

PESTICIDES! With the dangerous increase in pesticide use, currently at 1.4 billion tons of pesticides are used annually, this is the most direct threat to our bee population. Our bees simply cannot survive when insect killing pesticides are used in genetically engineered crops designed to kill off insects. Think about it! Other reasons for the bee decline are linked to industrial agriculture, GMOs, and the global climate change issue.

So, what can we do?

We need to continue to educate ourselves and others on the dangerous effects industrial agriculture has on the bees and our environment. We need to shift to ecological and sustainable agriculture- it can be done!!! We need to stand together and stop our policy makers from approving new bee killing pesticides that have UNKNOWN consequences to our environment and the future of our bees.

• Plant bee friendly plants like asters, sunflowers and dandelions!!

•Harvest your own bee colony! Its so rewarding to have your own local honey given to you by your own hardworking bees

•Spread the knowledge!! Tell a friend or family member what is happening to our bees and what our world would look like without them in it!!
